The repair works that gave people hell and saw many returning home from work the next day after a horrid time in traffic on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in Lagos, is done with.

Minister for Works, Dave Umahi, says the failed section of the Independence Bridge in Lagos has been fixed.

The Minister, who highlighted the on-field efforts of technical partners like Hitech and Buildwell in achieving the feat, thanked prominent champion of entrepreneurship, Tony Elumelu, and industrialist, Aliko Dangote, for their high-impact backend support.

The Minister, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Orji Uchenna Orji, praised the employers of labour for “their calls and encouragement” in the three days it took to get the job done – instead of the initially announced one month, adding that “they even requested that they send their planes to carry us.”

The Minister, who disclosed that the pivotal bridge would be redesigned to make it better, apologised for the hardship caused by the April 2, 2025, closure, explaining that it became very dangerous for commuters to use as a result of the technical failure of the approach slab, which affected the strength and utility of the bridge.

The statement, which was released by the spokesperson on Friday, further applauded President Bola Tinubu for providing direction through “purposefulness in leadership that inspires passion, responsiveness, and proactiveness in handling matters that affect Nigerians.”

And, also thanked Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other stakeholders for their cooperation and support in the quick reopening that brought untold relief across board.
