Insiders have disclosed why Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola has remained calm in the face of claims rattling his gubernatorial ambition.
The Senator representing Ogun West is a leading aspirant in the race to determine the next Governor of Ogun State.
To his credit, the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, popularly known as Yayi, owns one of the four most formidable political structures in Ogun State.
Although he has done a yeoman’s job in selling his candidacy statewide, the ambition of the former Lagos Senator continues to be buffeted by all kinds of opposition—the most recent being assertions that he was removed at the eleventh hour from serving as Chairman of the famous Ojude Oba Festival, allegedly to diminish his profile.
As with other controversies, he has refused to address the development.
“Because he understands that it is in his best interest to remain calm and not respond to such claims. They portray him as a victim of political persecution. His main focus is to become the APC’s candidate, and he is committed to that while continuing to build his profile across the state, not fighting back and losing the public sentiment already in his favour,” insiders say.
Sources disclosed that the Senator has not only refused to hit back at those taking political potshots at him but has also expressly instructed his supporters not to do so—except to correct mischaracterizations that pitch him against political leaders and key decision-makers within the party.
“His game plan is simple: court massive goodwill among party members and the grassroots, and leave attacks unanswered to boost his image through the perception of political persecution. And it’s working,” according to those in the know.
