Why Guber Aspirant Kunle “K-Rad” Adegoke & Good Friend “Senator” Ajibola Basiru Don’t See Eye To Eye

The once upon a time chummy relationship between former governorship aspirant in Osun State, Kunle Adegoke (popularly known as K-Rad) and former commissioner – now senator elect, Osun Central – Ajibola Basiru appears to have gone sour, societynow.ng understands.

And those who are familiar with the situation of things have disclosed betrayal of trust as the major reason the former good friends fell out.

Adegoke and Basiru are both from Osogbo, the state capital.

Interestingly, they belong to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to insiders they have been very close since their days as students at the University of Lagos, Akoka Yaba, Lagos State.

Checks by societynow.ng showed Basiru who previously served as Commissioner for Special Duties and later Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State actually made former governor Aregbesola’s Cabinet based on K-Rad Adegoke’s recommendation.

Further digs revealed the cabinet position was actually offered to K-Rad as a payback of sort for his brilliant outing when he handled the election tribunal matters that heralded Aregbesola’s ascension to power as Osun State governor. And – also – in appreciation for unflinching commitment to the ideals of the political family Aregbesola belongs to.

Adegoke was said to have declined taking the position and recommended his friend (Ajibola Basiru) on the ground he has his eyes on better things in future.

“The understanding was that Mr Basiru would be the eye of K-Rad, and his main man in former governor Aregbesola’s administration”, a source divulged.

But things didn’t play out as planned societynow.ng learned.

“When the issue of running for the office of governor came up Mr Adegoke believed he would automatically have the support of his friend in government”, the source further pointed out.

But that did not happen as the former commissioner – now a senator elect – openly endorsed the candidate favoured by Aregbesola against his friend, Adegoke.

The incumbent governor Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola was Rauf Aregbesola anointed candidate.

Mr Kunle Adegoke was said to have viewed the whole thing as a case of grand betrayal from a friend who rode on his contacts to become a factor in Osun state politics.

Hence the state of things between the hitherto bosom friends insiders insist.
