Gov Ibikunle Amosun

The story of the raid of the Lagos home of the governor of Ogun state Ibikunle Amosun was all over town for more than 72hours – 3days – before an official reaction issued denying it.

Why is this so?

But before then, let’s get one thing straight… the story of the raid is incorrect as stated in the release issued by the Ogun state commissioner for information, Dayo Adeneye.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission didn’t go anywhere near Amosun’s Lagos home, talk less of accessing a “bunker” and seizing huge funds in local and foreign currencies – amongst other discoveries.

And checks by societynow revealed the attempt to score “below the belt” political score against the “reputation” of the Governor as the reason for the emergence of the story appears very true.

But why wait more than three days to correct a “story” that never happened still remains the question.

Well, digs reveal Governor Amosun was a victim of his administrative style in this case.

Nothing comes out of government quarters without his express approval.

The governor is said to have a strong hold on moves by people in his cabinet – and their lieutenants.

And the commissioner for information feared using his discretion to correct “an incorrect” story about his boss to avoid the “consequence” of not sticking to the norms.

And it cost the governor – and the state – over 3days of what did not happen to gain “mileage” against them.

And for whatever it’s worth, the theme of the official statement debunking the story issued by Commissioner Adeneye is no different from an informal attempt by citizen Wale Adedayo on his facebook page when the news broke out – only it didn’t carry this much weight!.
