Away from the hype and back to back hits that has transformed street anthems on the local scene, reigning acts, Olamide (Olamide Adedji) remains a junior performer to D’banj.

And not only this, even with his huge drop in popularity, there are strong indications the D’banj will retain the stature for a long time to come.

And according to followers of the ways of the two performers..it is not about years spent but their approach to their craft.

”Olamide with his huge followings and record breaking attendance at his shows remains a sectional, hit and with limited scope” a source noted.

This assertion is based on key observation, the street king doesn’t cut across different divides with his lyrics.

Unlike D’banj who incidentally is from the same tribe as the younger artiste(Yoruba), Olamide is playing majorly to his ethnic region – particularly the younger generation.

And he has a strong hold on them, home and abroad (and those who understands the language), particularly those on the streets, wannabe street figures.

And that is as far as his kingdom as a street king stretches with lyrics heavily make up of his local language.

But D’banj who Interestingly, while he was a member of defunct musical group Mo’Hits wielded the same influence cuts across borders with his music.

He employs universal language of English in his lyrics and has taken his craft across borders leveraging on the glory of years gone.

Though drastically reduced in stature in local entertainment scene, D’banj smart approach
with his musical delivery as kept him ahead of the rapidly rising stars that should have swallowed whatever recognition he still has.

”What is happening is that D’banj as positioned self as African music ambassador..established his stature as an international act and he did this by utilising lyrics in a language considered universal- English..look at Oliver Twist and even his latest effort, Emergency..His association with Kanye West Good Music though believed to be ill fated gave him a bit of leverage, positioning as well. This has naturally positioned him, even to be short listed for main categories at international industry awards, a feat that Olamide with his style will find extremely hard to attain” a source analysed.

According to another ”these things are points that are pooled together to determine the stature and consequently performance fee of an artise and as things stands, Olamide with all the back to back local hits still fall short”

It is believed D’banj despite his all time low popularity on the local scene still commands a performance as high as N3.5m while Olamide gets lesser.

”That is why you will a D’banj believed to be living on past glory at home receive award on main stage at music Awards ceremonies outside the country while Olamide with is great following and litany of recongition on the local scene would receive award at same event back stage” a source provided further insight.
