‘Why CSDDN Is Honouring Comptroller Of Customs’ -Femi Aduwo

The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service ,Alhaji Abdullahi Diko lnde, CFR, is recipient of the maiden award of excellence for performance among the Ministries,Departments and Agencies(MDAs) instituted by the coalition of civil society organisation committed to good governance,security ,development and democracy in the country.

In a statement signed by Mr Olufemi Aduwo Executive Director,CSDDN- he explained why this is so.

‘We noted that the 6-point agenda of the CG is within the framework of Mr.President’s transformation agenda.

The Customs under the present leadership of the CG,superseded the performance of other military ,security and paramilitary in the area of training and retraining of officers and junior workers of the service.

We noted that more than 5000 ranks and files have benefited from both local and international training in the past 2yrs-this singular act has restored and enhanced professionalism and productivity of the service.

We want to appeal to FG to put Custom Service staff above what is tenable in oil industry because of the relevance of the service in revenue generation’.

Aduwu gave an insight into the composition of his organisation with the explanation that

‘ Conference On Security,Development & Democracy ln Nigeria (CSDDN) Is a coalition of 79 democracy inclined civil society organisations solely formed to monitor government policies in regard to Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of States Policy as stated in chapter 11 ,99 constitution as amended.

Unlike other awards,it has no monetary attachment from the recipient.

The essence is to promote service and merit in the public sector.’

He stated further that

‘Meanwhile,we have complied the list of ministers who are not performing or key into Mr President’s Transformation agenda and sent to him- the aim is to enable Mr President to study and verify allegations against the ministers mentioned.’
