Details available to societynow.ng revealed that former Governor Olusegun Mimiko is trending on the lips of many in Ondo state as the possible winner of the gubernatorial election that held yesterday, Saturday, October 10, 2020, becomes clearer.

Societynow.ng learned the saying ‘’Mimiko is a spent force’’ is trending.

Mimiko‘s choice, Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi is a distant third in all the results announced so far by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ajayi is the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), the party founded by Mimiko.

Re-election seeking Governor Rotimi Akeredolu maintains a very clear lead while Eyitayo Jegede holds forte in second place.

The consensus is that based on the result announced so far it is obvious Agboola’s performance, especially with backing from Mimiko, in the gubernatorial contest is far below expectation.

‘’It is obvious Agboola is nowhere near becoming a winner, he is not in the race… the gap between him and Akeredolu and Jegede is just too much’’ societynow.ng learned.

INEC has announced 15 out of the 18 local governments in the state at press time.

Mimiko until now was the overall political force in Ondo State earning him a two-term in office as Governor even when he contested on the platform of a relatively not popular political party.

His political influence has, however, dwindled since he left office amid allegations of working against his party – People’s Democratic Party – and helping to enthrone incumbent governor Akeredolu as successor to secure protection from persecution.

The aftermath of the allegation forced him out of the PDP and floated ZLP where he contested for a Senatorial position but suffered a heavy defeat.

The senatorial defeat which heavily demystified Mimiko had consigned him to the backwater of Ondo politics until Ajayi’s gubernatorial ambition launched him back into mainstream politicking.

‘’But Ajayi’s gubernatorial ambition has now dealt Mimiko the most devastating blow of his political career..it has validated Akeredolu’s narrative pre-election that Mimiko is spent political force’’ societynow.ng learned

Insiders disclosed that narrative has been dredged up and currently trending in Ondo as observers await the formal announcement of the winner of the Ondo 2020 gubernatorial election.
