“I was in the company of someone who was familiar with him but he didn’t know me. He was super courteous and exchanged pleasantries, even his wife took mock offense I didn’t greet her as warmly as I greeted her husband. We met them at the place. They were nearer the entrance and we had to pass their table but the clincher for me was that, after their meal, the power couple came over to bid us farewell at our table which was further down the hall. They came to return the courtesy” the source stated.

And explained why he found the behavior of the wealth creator who has committed $100 million to grooming 10,000 entrepreneurs across Africa through “The Tony Elumelu Foundation “- and his wife – exceptional.

“The reality is that the person I was with is below the Elumelus’ social and financial ladder and I was a stranger to them but there were very gracious. They particularly came to return the courtesy we extended to them and I find this charming because I have been with others there and seen other well-to-do persons take such things as their entitlements and just walk off. People who are nowhere near Elumelu’s status. I have seen a celebrity newspaper executive do that to a top government appointee I was with. The media executive just walked past us after he finished his meal” the source disclosed.

Owned by Tein George, The George Hotel which houses Da Vinci Restaurant is listed as one of the top five expensive hotels in Lagos state.
