Video: Heirs Holdings At 14, Tony Elumelu Shares 3 Tips That Helped To Create “Something Extraordinary”
“What could have been a setback, became the beginning of something extraordinary”
In 2010, the master businessman promoting entrepreneurship as catalyst for economic growth in Nigeria and across Africa, Tony Elumelu stepped down from the position that defined him as very good at what he does – the Chief Executive Officer at the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
The move was the result of an unforeseen and retroactive directive from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) – the industry regulator – that all bank Chief Executive Officers step down after 10 years.

Elumelu embraced the change by founding, Heirs Holdings, his family owned investment company, committed to improving lives and transforming Africa, through long-term investments in strategic sectors of the African economy, including financial services, hospitality, power, energy, technology and healthcare. He holds the position of Chairman.

“What could have been a setback, became the beginning of something extraordinary – an opportunity that was truly transformative”, the champion across different sectors wrote in celebration of 14 years anniversary of Heirs Holdings on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

The results at Heirs Holdings, complemented with those of other high-impact undertakings he has interests, including Transcorp Group has cemented his status as cemented his place in level 5 leadership – among the greats. ( as defined by Jim Collions’ best seller – “Good To Great”).
