Godwin Obaseki, the troubled Governor of Edo State is no longer in a rush to join the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party.

This development is attributed to the spark of the hope of securing the ticket the re-election ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Obaseki resigned from the All Progressives Congress yesterday, June 16, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari failed to assure him of getting a second term ticket.

Obaseki was disqualified by the screening committee ahead of the June 22 gubernatorial primary of the APC in Edo state as a result of the machination of National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole.

Oshiomhole, who was fighting suspension from office – initiated by Obaseki – was forced to live his horror when the court of Appeal affirmed his removal from office – after Obaseki announced resignation from the APC.

The development puts a big question on the decisions Oshiomhole took as National Chairman of the APC between the time he was first suspended and the Appeal court ratified his suspension.

Obaseki who planned to defect to the rival People’s Democratic Party today in the hunt for a 2nd term in office immediately halted his plan with the hope that his backers in the APC would install an acting National Chairman that would help him undo the obstacles Oshiomhole put in his way.

While the Chairman of the PDP in Edo STATE, Tony Aziegbemi stuck to plan and told insisted to new men that Obaseki, his deputy and entire APC structure would join his party today’’, Obaseki towed another path.

‘’ I have not moved to a new platform yet to seek re-election.

“My focus now is to control the spread of the coronavirus (COVID19) pandemic, which is ravaging our country and threatening our healthcare system’’ he posted putting the reputation and goodwill of powerful chieftains such as Atiku Abubakar and Governor Nyesom Wike who pressured the PDP in Edo State to accept him as a gubernatorial candidate on the line.
