Football is a uniting game, a game of love that binds countries together. Perhaps no other country would love to immerse themselves with the love that football brings more than Ukraine.

On Sunday, June 5, 2022, the Ukraine national team will battle Wales at Cardiff City Stadium in their dream battle to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Earlier this week, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, Ukraine took on Scotland, beating the Scottish three goals to one. The European qualifying match between both teams was scheduled early this year but was later cancelled due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

But to qualify for the Qatar 2022 world cup, Ukraine has to face Wales on Sunday for the final stage of the playoff. This encounter, Ukraine Vs Wales, will be played at Cardiff City Stadium, and the action from Cardiff City will be live on  Showmax Pro, the streaming platform changing how we enjoy live football. You don’t have to bother about getting stuck in traffic and missing your favourite team play again since Showmax Pro now offers hours of live football coverage on the go.

Ukraine, since its formation after the collapse of the Soviet Union, has qualified for the World Cup just once, in 2006. The team, led by Andriy Shevchenko, finally lost to eventual champion Italy in the quarterfinals. But their chance to qualify for the prestigious tournament lies within reach.

While international sympathy seems to tend toward Ukraine, Wales is desperate to compete in the competition, having only qualified for the tournament once, in 1958, when they reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champions Brazil.

In the ongoing UEFA Nations League, Jonathan Williams’ opening goal against Poland was turned by Jakub Kaminiski’s and Karol Swiderski’s goals. But the team hopes to make it into the World Cup.

Coach Rob Page sees Sunday’s game as crucial for Wales and him in particular, as a proud Welshman.

“There is still one huge game to play, and it will be emotional whoever we face. If it’s Scotland, it’s a derby, and if it’s Ukraine, the world will want them to win, and I understand that completely. People have suggested that Ukraine should be found a place in the World Cup regardless, and I wouldn’t oppose that. But for us to even be in this position is surreal. Sometimes I take a step back and think about it. It’s massive. Being a proud Welshman and growing up in the Valleys, football is so important to us.”

The overall winners in this path – Ukraine Vs Wales – will then qualify for the 2022 World Cup and take up the fourth position in Group B, alongside England, Iran and the United States.

To both teams, it’s a must-win match, but one team will come out victorious at the end of the day. Who is it going to be?
