Troops Repel 2-Hour Boko Haram Attack On Lake Chad Base, Inflict Heavy Losses
was met with stiff resistance from naval personnel
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a fierce two-hour attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the Naval Base at Lake Chad in the early hours of today, inflicting heavy losses on the insurgents.
The terrorists launched the attack around 2 AM in an attempt to destroy newly acquired Swamp Bogeys provided by the Borno State Government for clearing waterways in the Lake Chad area.
Their advance was met with stiff resistance from naval personnel, who were swiftly reinforced by troops from Baga.
A heavy firefight followed, lasting over two hours, during which scores of terrorists were neutralized and materials for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered. The attackers were eventually forced to retreat, unable to gain access to the Swamp Bogeys.
Despite a limited incursion that led to the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles, the base remained under firm control. Some personnel were wounded in action.
Air component platforms have now commenced follow-up operations to pursue and further decimate the fleeing terrorists along the waterways.
