Gubernatorial aspirants in Lagos State on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have developed a new phobia.

They want nothing to do with publicly confirming or speaking about their gubernatorial ambition.

“It’s like a fear factor thing. Many of them are being very intentional about not engaging in either open or underground campaigns of any sort,” sources say.

Further information reveals that this development is linked to perceptions about President Bola Tinubu’s stance on such matters.

The President, widely acknowledged as having a major say in the decision, is said to heavily frown upon such antics.

“The word is that openly campaigning to become Lagos Governor is a surefire way to lose the President’s support. That’s why all serious aspirants in the ruling party are making it a point of duty to avoid being caught in such a web,” insiders say.

Those making this claim point to what happened to those who took such a path in the past as proof.

Sanwo-Olu leaves office in 2027 after serving the constitutionally allowed two terms, throwing the position open for all to compete—on paper.
