There is a growing whisper in the corridors of power.

And it is fast spilling into the social circle.

At the center of it is the minister of finance Kemi Adeosun and dandy Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Babatunde Fowler.

The duo has become unusually close in recent time.

They have become so close that it appears they work “together” as “partners” in the same company.

The manner of closeness has sparked off talks here and there – and digs by those in the know have established the real cause of the minister and FIRS boss’ closeness.

Details available reveal that Fowler is being targeted by “powerful interests” in the corridors of power.

And those zeroing in on him are said to be waging a campaign of “non-performance” against him insisting giving the same opportunity they have candidates who can “post better” results than the current FIRS headman.

The man who graduated from Lagos tax man to national tax collector is said to have devised a strategy that enables him work hand in glove with the Finance Minister in order to buoy his results.

And the Minister who is said to be comfortable with the development, since a better performance by the FIRS under fowler would impact positively on the overall rating of the ministry she oversees.

“And more so, she sees Fowler as an easy to work with guy, in the face of uncertainty over the kind of replacement that would emerge should those after the current FIRS boss have their way” a source stated.

Insiders revealed that this is the main reason for the sudden closeness that has transformed fowler a ubiquitous factor where Adeosun is concerned for now.

“Any other reason is pure mischief” a source asserted.
