Suspended Intelligence Chief, Ayo Oke Faces Treason Charge As Presidency Orders Investigation Into Mysterious N15billion He Claimed Meant For Covert Operations

Obviously, the commander in chief of Nigeria armed offices and nation’s number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari was unaware of the existence of N15billion – estimate of denominations recovered in local currency- discovered by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in an empty Lagos apartment and it’s use.

This is despite claims by Ayo Oke Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, the organisation in charge of foreign and external covert operations it was meant for official purposes.

Oke had claimed his agency’s ownership of the mysterious funds based on assertion it was approved by former president Goodluck Jonathan for covert operations.

An operation which the directive ordered him to proceed on suspension shows the incumbent was not briefed on two years into it’s administration.

The statement that announced Oke’s suspension reads in part ‘’ the President has ordered a full scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim

The investigation is also to enquire into the circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds.’’
