Seyi Makinde In Big Dilemma – Tension Rises In Oyo – Over Forcefully Takeover Of Offices By Sacked Council Bosses
Charles Oyelesi
There is tension in Oyo state and Governor Seyi Makinde is in a dilemma over how to handle it.
This development is as a result of the forceful return to office by the council chairmen sacked by Governor Makinde when he assumed office.
Makinde who won the election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party sacked all the chairmen elected – before he became governor – into office on the platform of the rival All Progressives Congress.
The Governor appointed caretaker committees in the stead of the elected chairmen that he sacked.
But the attorney general of federation Abubakar Malami declared the sack of the council chairmen by governor Makinde as illegal and ordered Inspector General of Police to provide security for the elected council bosses to office return to office.
The emboldened chairmen forcefully returned to the office today against the express desire of the governor.
The sacked chairmen took back their office backed by the combination of police authority and street muscles.
They return to office prepared for a major showdown and insist they are ready to do ‘’whatever it takes’’ to see out their tenure.
The council bosses’ hard stance comes in the face of Governor Makinde’s refusal to allow them to have their way.
The Governor claimed to have secured a court injunction that prevents the council chairmen from returning to office – an action declared null and void by the other side.
Societynow.ng’s investigation revealed that as either side refuse to back down for the other, tension over possible break down of law and order and an outbreak of violence continue to rise.
Insiders disclosed that Governor Makinde whose handler is positioned as a performer is confounded on how to ‘’ diffuse the situation’’ without losing face.
The governor’s dilemma is said to be hinged on conflicting advice from his advisors regarding how to handle the situation without giving the opposition the foothold to trouble his administration and at the same time staying within the confines of the law.
