Philip Shaibu, director-general of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), has warned the public about scammers using his name and office to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

Shaibu, a former deputy governor of Edo state, said he had been alerted to the activities of impostors parading themselves as him and offering fake employment opportunities and contracts.

He explained that the fraudsters often make financial appeals or demand money from their targets under the guise of facilitating jobs or awarding contracts.

“These claims, requests, and offers are fraudulent,” Shaibu said. “You are strongly advised to exercise caution and utmost discretion whenever you receive such approaches, so as not to fall victim.”

The NIS DG stressed that he does not provide recruitment services or award contracts, adding that he would never ask anyone to pay money in exchange for anything.

He urged Nigerians to disregard such fraudulent offers and remain vigilant against those who may exploit his name or position for criminal purposes.
