After all the frenzy and hullabaloo that trailed talks of defection over how he was outplayed out of his gubernatorial ambition, former speaker of the Federal House of Representatives- Dimeji Bankole remains a member of the People’s Democratic Party.
And with a charge – give all support to party gubernatorial flag bearer Gboyega Nasir Isiaka.
Whether Bankole and his followers faithfully execute the directive is subject to debate.
Isiaka is the beneficiary of machinations by Kashamu Buruji, the fugitive politician with Ogun state party structure in his palms who outwitted the former speaker out of the race.
It is an open secret in politics of Ogun state that though Kashamu and Dimeji belong to the same political party, they do not see eye to eye.
Whether the former federal lawmaker would now work to help Kashamu enthrone is choice as number one citizen of Ogun state remain to be seen.
But what kept Dimeji in PDP and to accept the verdict of working for Gboyega Isiaka’s success?
Sources confirmed it was the intervention of the President – and leadership of his party.
Informants disclosed a concerted pressure from re election seeking President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President David Mark and Party National Chairman Adamu Mu’azu perfected the arrangement.
They ensured a ‘stay in the PDP’ compliance with ‘cogent’ promises of ‘a federal appointment’.
According to an this ‘development’ coupled with hard stance of Aremo Olusegun Osoba, the Social Democratic Party leader to adopt him as a gubernatorial candidate quieten Bankole and his supporters to PDP.
‘Fulfilment of promises made to him is premised on majorly staying and calling his foot soldiers to order in portraying the PDP as divided in the state…he wriggled out of the attached condition of the success of Isiaka at the polls’ a privy source divulged.
Further revelations revealed Bankole has since directed all his aggrieved supporters to sheath the swords.
Glimpse of workings within his camp revealed the former law maker is laying in wait till after the election to grapple for the party structure that put paid to his gubernatorial ambition.
Incidentally, the same lack of control of party structure scuttled his re election into the House of Representatives after arrangement to retain his seat was allegedly perfected.
‘He has decided that whatever position he is appointed to, he needs the party structure in his palm…but the fight for that control is being planned for after the general elections’ an insider confirmed.
