Popular National Union of Transport Union Workers (NURTW) Kunle Lawal top shot in Lagos state better known as Kunle Poly has reacted to claims he has a hand in the stealing of the traditional Staff Of Office of the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu.

Kunle Poly who is one of the branch chairmen of the NURTW in Lagos State labels the claims linking him to the stolen traditional Staff Of Office (Opa Ase) as “shocking and scandalous “

The transport boss denies any association with “Samson” whom he was alleged to have sponsored to steal the Staff of Office.

“Let it be known that Kunle Poly has nothing to do with Samson or anybody who might have carried the staff of Oba. The public must know that this is an attempt to drag the hard earned name of Kunle Poly into the mire” Kunle Poly asserted.

Declaring his thoughts on the stealing of the “Opa Ase’, Kunle Poly stated, “It is important to note that Kunle Poly condemned (sic) the act as it is not only disdainful but also condescending to our time tested stool of Oba of Lagos and Oba Rilwan Akiolu through his graciously sterling performance to the entire people of Lagos State and undiluted peaceful coexistence we have experienced in his time.”

In an attempt to further disassociate himself from the action that is attracting widespread condemnation the NURTW top shot provided an alibi “Arguably, Kunle Poly was not anywhere close to the Lagos Island since Sunday 18th of October 2020. He has since been on Mainland before the announcement of the Curfew by the governor of Lagos State–His Excellency Babajide Sanwoolu. Saying Kunle Poly masterminded the attack and taking away the Staff of Oba of Lagos is traditional heresy. So where do the dots connect? Some dots are certainly not connecting to have heaped the responsibility on him. Kunle Poly is a Prince who respects the sanctity of tradition of Oba of Lagos.”

Kunle Poly made the disclosures in a statement he released today, Saturday, October 24, 2020.

The traditional Staff of Office of the Oba of Lagos was stolen on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, when hoodlums under the guise of anger over the shooting of unarmed #EndSars protesters at the Lekki Toll-Gate on Tuesday, October 20, invaded his palace.

The palace was looted and vandalized with the vandals making away with the traditional Staff of Office and other valuables of Oba Akiolu including shoes and money.

Oba Akiolu escaped harm with the help of soliders who spirited him away from the palace.
