Kayode Odunaro, the closest aide to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has hit out hard at other gubernatorial aspirants in Ogun State.

The media adviser to the senator, famously known as Yayi, labelled his targets “political wannabes,” “serial/cyclical losers,” and “opportunistic politicians” in a social media post he made on April 15, 2024.

His principal is widely acknowledged as the frontrunner contender in the race to determine the next Governor of Ogun State in 2027.

“This is the way I am looking at those ‘political wannabes,’ ‘serial/cyclical losers,’ ‘opportunistic politicians,’ etc. etc., who aspire for OGUN ‘27,” Odunaro wrote in a post that featured multiple pictures and started with a capitalized “Yayi ni ooo” (It is Yayi).

Although he did not mention the names of the aspirants, the senator’s spokesperson stated explicitly, “In due season soon my look will be editorialized when aspirants dare to throw their hats in the ring. O ju ti la. No more ‘rapala wole’ syndrome in Ogun Governorship.”

He provided a general explanation of the indigenous expressions with: “The PEOPLE of OGUN State are wiser now to decide where their bread is well buttered.”

A former state legislator, House of Representatives member, and senator in Lagos State, Yayi became the Senator representing Ogun West in 2023 and has embarked on massive empowerment schemes and project executions beyond his senatorial district, which have transformed him into the most talked about.

However, despite his high visibility and handshakes with politicians and groups across different zones, claims that he faces a major political battle to achieve the gubernatorial ambition that started as far back as 2012 have refused to go away.

Odunaro’s post is believed to be in reaction to assertions limiting the chances of his principal becoming the next Governor of Ogun State.

His visibility is enhanced by influencing projects being carried out in other senatorial districts.
