Police To Begin Enforcement Of Tinted Permit Pending Outcome Of Court Case
followed a review of emerging security concerns
The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will resume the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, pending the final determination of a matter currently before the court.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said the decision followed a review of emerging security concerns and the need to ensure the safety of citizens across the country.
The Force clarified that at no time did any court restrain it from enforcing the law regulating the use of tinted glass on vehicles, stressing that the earlier suspension of enforcement was a voluntary step taken in the interest of responsibility, transparency and public convenience.
According to the statement, the suspension was intended to allow motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation and complete the necessary registration process without undue pressure.
However, the police noted that recent security trends had shown a disturbing increase in criminal activities carried out with the aid of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass. It added that some individuals and organised criminal groups had taken advantage of the situation to conceal their identities while perpetrating crimes.
“In view of this development, the Nigeria Police Force has found it both necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard our communities,” the statement said.
The Force disclosed that enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy would resume nationwide on January 2, 2026.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement would be carried out professionally, with respect for citizens’ rights and in strict compliance with extant laws.
He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to public safety and the rule of law, while urging cooperation from members of the public in efforts to enhance national security.
Motorists who require tinted glass permits were advised to apply through approved channels and ensure that their vehicles comply with legal requirements.
