Former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has commenced the Southwest mobilization strategy for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a major push by the opposition coalition to challenge the second term ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aregbesola, who now serves as the National Secretary of the ADC, began the tour with a high-level consultation and grassroots engagement meeting in Akure, Ondo State.

He was warmly received by a coalition of opposition leaders and enthusiastic supporters drawn from across the state.

In his remarks, Aregbesola declared that the ADC represents a “principled stand to put the people first at the centre of government and politics,” emphasizing that the party’s mission is to redefine governance in Nigeria by focusing on citizen welfare, inclusion, and development.

“Our goal is to bring a people-friendly government and people-friendly politics that truly place the people at the heart of governance,” Aregbesola said to cheering supporters.

The visit marks the formal kickoff of a broader Southwest strategy designed to rally support across the six states of the region, as the ADC-led coalition gears up for a high-stakes political contest in 2027.

According to sources close to the campaign, Aregbesola is expected to lead similar mobilization efforts in Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, and his home state, Osun, in the coming weeks.

Describing the ADC as a “beacon for progressives who believe in justice, equity, and a better Nigeria,” Aregbesola urged citizens who feel left behind by the current administration to “rise, reclaim their voice, and shape the future.”

The Southwest mobilization effort is expected to boost the visibility and organizational strength of the ADC in key battleground states and further solidify the opposition’s resolve to unseat the APC.

He ended his speech with the party’s slogan, drawing thunderous applause from the audience: “ADC! Arise and Shine!”

The coming days promise to be politically charged as opposition figures intensify efforts to build momentum and unity ahead of what many believe will be a defining general election.
