Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Orji Uzor Kalu has appealed to the British government to relax its sanction on the football club, Chelsea.

Kalu a former Governor of Abia state made the appeal today, Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Chelsea is facing sanctions over the ties of its owner Roman Abramovich to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Friends and associates of Putin are being sanctioned as part of concerted efforts to force Russia to call off its invasion of Ukraine.

Peaceful resolution, negotiations and respect to one’s dignity remains the best way to resolve conflicts.

The Premier League has disqualified Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich as a director of the club after the oligarch was sanctioned by the UK government.

Abramovich had his British assets – including Chelsea – frozen on Thursday as part of the government’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In my opinion, the sanction on Chelsea football club is too harsh considering the fact that it is a football club with millions of followers across the globe.

These passionate followers are emotionally attached to the club. Majority of them want peace restored in the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
