Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi, Alake Adedotun Gbadebo Open Curtain As Colours & Sounds Of Africa Drums Festivals From Over 20 Cultural Troupes Far And Near Light Up Ogun State

The African Drums Festival is on.

The second edition edition of the unique concept which showcases the richness of black heritage kicked off in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital yesterday – April 20.

“And it was magnificent” says a witness

“The robust activities of the opening day provided insight into what to expect throughout the event” another source stated.

The cultural event which runs till Saturday 22 was official declared open by Governor Ibikunle Amosun in the presence of heavy weight personifications of custom and tradition, Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi , Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo , Olu of Ilaro Oba Kehinde Olugbenle and other leading lights of culture – including cultural ambassadors from different African countries.

With over twenty troupes from Nigeria and other African countries on parade, distinguished individual such as Professor Wole Soyinka was also on hand to lend weight to the event.

The second edition was declared open with Governor Amosun beating the tallest drum in Africa unveiled last as hails of fireworks lit the sky.

The arresting performance of Aralola Olumuyiwa, the wondrous female drummer simply known as Ara defined the artistic prowess of other cultural delights that graces the stage for the opening day.

The second leg of the event championed by the Muyiwa Oladipo led Ogun state ministry of culture and tourism kicks off later today.
