Information at hand revealed that former Governor Olusegun Mimiko is refusing entreaties to support Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the October 10, 2020, Ondo Gubernatorial election.

Societynow.ng learned that Mimiko’s stance is the result of a past faceoff with Jegede.

Insiders disclosed that Mimiko who was the immediate past Governor of Ondo State on the platform of the PDP is accused of ‘’sabotaging’’ the campaign to make Jegede succeed him.

‘’Mimiko supported Jegede to become the Gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in the last gubernatorial election in Ondo state but he is believed to have worked against the move earned Rotimi Akeredolu the candidate All Progressives Congress, the party in charge of the Federal Government his first term in office’’ societynow.ng.

‘’Jegede’s point was that you cannot continue to empower someone working against the interest of the party and members at large by keeping him in a position of influence and many people bought into the argument to work against Mimiko’’ societynow.ng learned.

The fallout of the development was Mimiko’s defection to the Labor Party and later, setting up Zenith Labour Party.

‘’But you know in politics there are no permanent enemies just interests, that is why the PDP has reached out to Mimiko for support in the fight against the second term ambition of Akeredolu but the former governor is playing payback time against Jegede’’ societynow.ng gathered.

Insiders disclosed though it was not clear what ‘’arrangement;; Mimiko reached with the ruling party to allegedly help Akeredolu win his first term in office, it was apparent that the former Governor remains insulated from ‘’political persecution.’’
