Ogun Commissioner, Segun Odubela In Missing N350m Education Fund
…Gov Amosun orders guarded investigation to protect cabinet image
Ogun state commissioner, Gbenga Odubela is at the centre of growing talks over missing fund.
The cabinet member incharge of the Ministry of Education is said to be finding it hard to account for N350m. The money was reportedly earmarked for payment of regional examination fee of the state’s Secondary School leaving students.
Informants disclosed the Ministry couldn’t pay the fee as at when due. And Education Commissioner Odubela charged with overall affair couldn’t offer satisfactory explanation.
The specific examination is identified for the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
Insiders revealed Governor Amosun got wind of the development- and his probe revealed ‘inconsistent explanations that couldn’t clarify how the earmarked fund got missing’. The Commissioner hinged the disappearance on ‘utilising it for other uses’
Information had it that, Governor Amosun had kept the development low profile to safe guard the image of the cabinet and his government’s reputation.
Commissioner Odubela is one of his hard core loyalist- and the politics of Ogun state is that such a development may transform into a whirlwind cry of corruption opponents will greatly leverage on for political mileage.
Hush talks of the development by staffers of the ministry have however continued to make the development an open secret in the ministry.
