Ogun APC Suspends Daniel For Alleged Anti-Party Activities Amid Feud With Abiodun
a development that further exposes the deepening rift
The Ogun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ratified the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel and Kunle Folarin over alleged anti-party activities, in a development that further exposes the deepening rift between Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The State Working Committee (SWC), chaired by Chief Yemi Sanusi, met on August 19 and affirmed the decisions of Ward 4 and Ward 6 in Sagamu local government, which had earlier suspended the two party members.
The disciplinary committees in the wards had accused Daniel and Folarin of gross misconduct and anti-party activities. Both men were invited to appear before the committees to defend themselves but reportedly failed to respond or attend the hearings.
The committees said they considered evidence from witnesses and documents, as well as reports that the accused persons tried to intimidate members and frustrate the process by discouraging cooperation. They subsequently placed the duo on indefinite suspension, a decision that has now been ratified by the state leadership.
The move comes against the backdrop of a protracted supremacy battle between Abiodun and Daniel, dating back to 2020. The governor and the former Ogun state helmsman have been locked in a struggle for political dominance, which has grown fiercer in recent months.
The rivalry has been fueled by claims that while Daniel wants to retain his Ogun East senatorial seat, Abiodun is eyeing the position in the next election cycle.
Daniel’s sidelining within the party became more evident during the August 16, 2025 Remo by-election, where the APC recorded victory but the senator was conspicuously excluded from the campaign council. Party insiders say Abiodun has since consolidated control over the party machinery in the state.
The battle between the two heavyweights has also spilled into government affairs. A recent property audit launched by the Ogun state government has been described as routine, but Daniel’s camp views it as part of a larger political persecution.
His aide, Steve Oliyide, has alleged that the exercise is targeted at his principal, and the matter has already become the subject of litigation between the senator and the state government.
The ratification of Daniel’s suspension is being interpreted by many within Ogun political circles as a move that could further weaken his stature in the party , strengthening Abiodun’s grip as the undisputed leader of the APC in the state.
