Supporters of the gubernatorial ambition of Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the Federal House of Representatives member from Egbado North and Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, appear to be suddenly all over town.

Checks revealed that at the heart of this development is a “fast and furious” engagement with loyalists of Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola.

Adeola, famously known as Yayi, and Isiaka, better known as GNI, are both from Yewa, Ogun West — a zone that has yet to produce a governor since the creation of Ogun State in 1976.

They both aspire to be the first to achieve this feat from Yewa.

Although GNI has made repeated attempts in 2011, 2015, and 2019 to become Governor of Ogun State, it is Yayi — who is making his first attempt — that is widely acknowledged as the leading aspirant ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Yayi, who is credited with tremendous work as the Senator representing Ogun West, has retained his status as the leading candidate through the unrelenting campaign of his loyalists across the state. Sources say GNI’s men are gaining visibility through their intense engagement with Yayi’s team.

At the crux of the face-off between both camps lies the question of who has the legitimate and historical claim to fulfill the collective and long-standing ambition of the Yewa people to produce a governor.

Both men — current members of the National Assembly — are contesting under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
