Ogun 2027: Sarafa Isola’s Men Begin Quiet But Steady Campaign
sparked renewed interest
Checks revealed that loyalists of former Minister Sarafa Isola have begun a quiet but steady campaign for him to become the next governor of Ogun State.
Sources confirmed that subtle campaigns are being carried out across social media platforms, raising awareness about his supposed plans for the 2027 election.
“It is actually a reawakening of a sort, because he was at a time one of the most touted names to succeed Governor Abiodun,” a source clarified.
Further checks reveal that there were earlier claims that Sarafa had been adopted as the preferred choice of former Governors Ibikunle Amosun and Gbenga Daniel to succeed Governor Abiodun.
The reports elevated Sarafa’s chances of becoming Abiodun’s successor—who will leave office in 2027 after a two-term tenure that began in 2019—beyond expectations.
However, the speculations fizzled out following revelations that Daniel and Amosun—owners of two powerful political structures—were considering other options with firmer footing in local politics.
This is despite Sarafa’s profile, which includes stints as a former local government chairman and commissioner in the state, ex-Secretary to the State Government (SSG), former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and Minister for Mines and Steel—making him a well-known figure.
The claims that the former governors were looking elsewhere for a preferred candidate appeared to have knocked Sarafa out of public political permutations—until the recent subtle campaign by his loyalists.
This development has now sparked renewed interest in his ambition, according to followers of Ogun State politics.
