NYSC Explains Why Rita Uguamaye Is Yet To Get Certificate
dismissed reports that it withheld the Certificate of National Service
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed reports that it withheld the Certificate of National Service (CNS) of a corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, because she made critical remarks about the government.
In a statement on Sunday, the NYSC described the claim as false, adding that Uguamaye — with state code number LA/24B/8325 — is among 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for disciplinary reasons.
According to the scheme, her service year was extended by two months after she failed to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance, in line with the NYSC bye-laws.
“This extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case,” the statement read. “The principle of equal treatment was only applied in this case.”
The NYSC urged the public to avoid politicising the issue, stressing that extensions for non-compliance are a longstanding tradition within the scheme.
It reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out its mandate in line with the constitution.
