Not Because Of His Marriage Troubles Or Flamboyance – But Here Is Why Dino Melaye’s Kogi Guber Ambition May Not Fly

The investigation conducted revealed that while tidy numbers of Senators were just in the 8th assembly to voice the Nays and Ayes, Senator Dino Melaye stood out.

And his controversies did a great injustice to his contributions in the Senate.

The Senator from Kogi West sponsored about 20 (Twenty) Bills and 30 (Thirty) motions in the 8th Assembly.

It is also to his credit that in the face of huge antagonism from his state governor Yahaya Bello – including a failed move to recall him – Senator Melaye got re-elected.

But the information available to societynow.ng revealed that these feats add little or nothing to helping People’s Democratic Party’s chieftain to achieve the dream of becoming the next Governor of Kogi state.

‘’Fighting an incumbent governor and retaining your senatorial seat is one thing, campaigning to become the governor of the entire state is another’’ a source pointed out to societynow.ng.

Societynow.ng learned that the major factor against Dino does not even have to do with opponents leveraging on the troubles that wrecked his marriage to Tokunbo – the mother of his three children or made nonsense of the relationship he plunged into with former partner, Alero Falope.

‘’Neither does it has to do with opposition milking the controversies about his excessive extravagance and collection of high-value wonder on wheels in the face of poverty ravaging the people of his constituency and his state in general’’ societynow.ng learned.

‘’It has to do with numbers and the mindset of the people of Kogi state. Dino is from a minority sect, he can retain his Senatorial seat for as long as he wants based on the stronghold he has on the politics of Kogi West but he doesn’t enjoy such popularity outside of his immediate area’’ societynow.ng learned.

The checks conducted by societynow.ng revealed that ethnic bias plays a big role in who becomes the Governor of Kogi state.

Dino is classified amongst the minority Yoruba infused divisions of Kogi state known as Okun that the dominant Igala ethnic group consciously work against – and constantly outvote – from claiming the governorship seat.

‘’No matter the divisions amongst the dominant Igala tribe, when the chips are down and the decision to determine who becomes the governor of Kogi state is to be made they always rally round one of their won against the Okun people…so the numbers certainly does not favor Dino’s ambition’’ societynow.ng learned.
