MWO: Nigerian Army Conducts Screening For Warrant Officers

an annual event aimed at screening eligible candidates for promotion to the next rank

In its efforts to sustain career development for personnel of the Nigerian Army ( NA), the Department of Personnel Management (DPM) of the NA, is currently conducting Warrant Officer (WO) to Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Promotion Board, 2025. The promotion exercise was inaugurated on 5 September, 2025 by the Chief of Personnel Management (CPM) – Army, Major General AA Adekeye, at the Headquarters (HQ) 2 Division NA, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.

The exercise is an annual event aimed at screening eligible candidates for promotion to the next rank of MWO, and recommend them accordingly.

The CPM (A), while addressing candidates, congratulated them; affirming that the successes of attaining the rank of WO is a testimony of their resilience, dedication, and selfless service to the NA, and the Nation at large. He noted that DPM is responsible for career planning of NA soldiers from enlistment to their discharge, adding that the Department is mandated to screen eligible WOs, and recommend suitable and qualified ones for promotion to the rank of MWO.

Speaking further, Major General Adekeye, reminded the candidates saying that, “the guidelines contained in the reviewed Harmonised Terms and Condition of Service for Soldiers, Ratings, and Airmen (2024), as well as the NA Administrative Policies and Procedures (2023) for promotion shall be used strictly for the exercise. During the exercise, participants shall undergo a compulsory medical examination to ascertain their mental and physical fitness to qualify them for the rigorous activities outlined for the exercise.” He added that the exercise would include; weapon handling, military drill, current affairs, general service knowledge, basic computer tests, and more. He urged participants not to engage in any unwholesome practice such as taking any form of supplement, or drugs to enhance their physical performance.

Major General Adekeye also charged participants to display highest standard of discipline and regimentation. “You must ensure promptness to all activities and obey instructions at all times. You must avoid acts of cheating in any form or attempt to induce anyone to gain favour during or after the exercise.” The CPM further implored the Board President, Brigadier General MC Akinojo, and all Members, to be objective, diligent, ensuring the highest standard of professionalism in the discharge of the task ahead of them. He appreciated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, for providing guidance, leadership, and the enabling environment for the exercise, and also thanked the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division NA Major General CR Nnebeife, and his team for their efforts towards ensuring adequate preperations were made for the success of the exercise.

Earlier in an address to candidates, Major General Nnebeife, assured that the Board Members would be diligent and objective in carrying out their responsibilities. He urged candidates to continue to update themselves on current issues before the day of the interview, adding that during the 2 – 3 weeks exercise, candidates’ professional abilities, technical skills, and experience, particularly in the face of evolving security challenges, as well as their leadership and mentorship qualities will be put to test.

Major General Nnebeife, also urged the candidates to remain discipline and focus on the task ahead, and to abstain from acts that will bring disrepute to the image of the NA. He thanked the CPM for giving the Division opportunity to play host, while urging Board Members to be fair in their assessments, and remain resolute in recommending only qualified candidates. The GOC, also appreciated the COAS, for his continuous strategic guidance, unwavering support, and for providing the Division the resources to host the exercise. The promotion exercise is scheduled from 4 – 25 September 2025.
