Muyiwa Oladipo Mourns Adewunmi “Ijaya” Onanuga, Celebrates Her Legacy

Basorun Muyiwa Oladipo (BMO), a former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly and seasoned public servant, has expressed profound grief over the sudden demise of Federal House of Representatives member Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, popularly known as Ijaya. 

She gave up the ghost on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness.

Her passing, he noted, has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family, loved ones, and the people of Remo Federal Constituency.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Oladipo described Onanuga as a jolly and compassionate sister who extended a helping hand to many. He recounted his experience working with her during her tenure as Senior Special Assistant on Environment, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and commitment.

“Her contributions were not only evident in her role as SSA but also in her service to the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency. She proved her mettle as a representative, passionately championing the causes of her constituents and advocating for women empowerment and social welfare,” Oladipo said.

He further highlighted Onanuga’s remarkable achievements as Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, where she embodied servant leadership and served as a beacon of hope and progress for her community.

“Rt. Hon. Onanuga’s tireless efforts to uplift her people and her unwavering dedication to public service will remain a testament to her strength and resilience. She was a confidant, mother, sister, and friend whose love and laughter enriched many lives,” Oladipo added.

Reflecting on the impact of her legacy, Oladipo commended her transformative influence on the constituency, noting that Remo had not witnessed such outstanding representation in the past 24 years.

In his message to the people of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, he urged them to find solace in the enduring legacy of their remarkable representative, whose life serves as an inspiration for excellence and selfless service.

As he concluded his tribute, Oladipo prayed for the peaceful repose of Onanuga’s soul, offering comfort to her family and constituents during this difficult time.

“May her legacy continue to motivate us all to strive for greatness. Rest in peace, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga,” he concluded.

Basorun Muyiwa Oladipo, who has held prominent roles in Ogun State’s governance, including Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Culture and Tourism, and Consultant to the Governor, joins countless others in mourning the loss of an exemplary leader and advocate for humanity.
