Obasi Reuben, now a Credit Analyst and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, says that he could not have completed his education without the support he received from MTN Foundation.

Upon his admission into the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Reuben’s father had gone bankrupt making it difficult for his basic needs to be met both in school and at home. This life-altering change had begun to affect his academic performance until he learned of MTN Foundation’s scholarship programme and applied.

According to him, securing the scholarship not only ensured that he could complete his university education without worrying about funds, it also gave him renewed zeal to excel at his studies.

Seeing the benefits of the scholarship, Reuben was moved to also assist other students in his school in applying for the MTNF Scholarship.

Partnering with a fellow MTNF Scholar they set up an educational platform tagged, The Remedy. Through the platform, they organised free tutorials, produced and distributed academic handouts that also contained psychometric tests to help students prepare for the scholarship and gave out prizes to high performers.

According to Reuben, “The Skill Up training offered just before my graduation prepared me adequately for life outside the university and the materials given equipped me with the knowledge on how to write a good CV and also ace any interview.

“In my profession as a Credit Analyst and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, I have been able to bear the torch of a true MTNF STSS Ambassador, rising to higher level positions within a short period of time and winning several awards,” he stated.

The MTN Foundation has recently announced a call for applications for its annual undergraduate scholarship awards, for students taking science and technology-related courses in public tertiary institutions and blind students taking any course in public tertiary institutions. Eligible and qualified candidates should visit www.mtn.ng/scholarship to apply before the deadline on June 18, 2023.
