…why his ambition is threatening party unity.

The news is out.

Mohammed, the son of former military ruler, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida is very much interested in becoming the next governor of Niger state.

And not only this, he has initiated moves towards this end.

Sources confirm the younger Babangida is exploring means to achieve his ambition, particularly secure the status of flag bearer of the PDP in a quiet manner that would attract as little attention as possible.

Insiders disclose the ploy as sanctioned by his ailing father, former president Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.

Findings revealed the move necessitated by need to avoid reactions that might over shadow his ambition as a result of his father’s past history – he is established as the canceller of the nation’s freest and fairest election, June 12 Presidential election. A move that earned the winner, M.K.O Abiola and his wife, Kudirat death at different times in the course of claiming the mandate. And equally, sparked off a chain of reaction that left the nation tilting on the edge of endless anarchy.

Added revelations revealed the move was also warranted by attempt to douse as much resentment within the party as possible in the reality that against party arrangement, Mohammed seeking to succeed Governor Aliyu comes from the same zone as the incumbent.

Informants confirmed after 8yrs of Aliyu’s rule, the party hierarchy has zoned the gubernatorial seat out of his area to give other region a fair share.

‘Mohammed’s ambitio is going against that, and with it comes a certain amount of resentment and looming strife’ a source analysed.

Further digs revealed another factor that looms large on the political landscape of the area that required Mohammed coat his ambition in secrecy is the arrays of aspirants seeking to occupy the state’s number seat- and towering above them all, the incumbent’s listed preferred candidate, Umar Nasko- the Chief of Staff.

Outside of Nasko, there are said to be 12 other aspirants with the same ambition across party lines.

But within the PDP, Mohammed and his secret agenda is looking forward to ambushing the likes of Nasko and Gov Aliyu backing, Deputy Gov, Ahmed Ibeto, Commissiner Mu’azu Bawa, former military topshot, Aminu Kontagora and others.

Increased findings revealed Mohammed is maintain a secret cover in other not to go down history as ‘a man not able to achieve his mission, especially with the larger than life Babangida structure at his disposal

‘negotiations are on for him to scale the hurdles, if the coast really looks favourable he will declare…but if not he would just abstain and fall on the claim, he never declared.

‘It’s just the same template used for his father’s botched presidential ambition when he wanted to run as a civiain’ a source gave more insight.

How the game plan plays out, remains to be seen.

But however it pans out the Babangida’s are working hard to return one of their own to mainstream politics – and attendant power and influence.

A testament of this is evident in the disclosure

The patriarch of the family, Ibrahim Babangida and his whole family – Mohammed included- have registered at the Sabon – Gari Ward in Chanchanga Local Govt Area of the state.

The former ruler leads the list with registration number ‘ ‘0755501’ . His son and guber aspirant Mohammed follows with listed number ‘0755502’, while younger one Aminu and Halima trail him with registration numbers ‘0755503,’ 0755504.
