A violent incident occurred on Thursday at a burial ceremony in Okitipupa, Ondo State, leaving popular fuji musician Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere and his team shaken. According to his media manager, Ayonla Obesere Althentic, the trouble began after Obesere concluded his performance and the team was preparing to leave the venue.
Althentic said large groups of touts converged on the area, targeting him because he was carrying a bag of money.
Efforts to leave peacefully failed as the assailants became aggressive, demanding the bag.

He also said some assailants continued to harass Obesere despite attempts to pacify them with money. Althantic later guided Obesere into a vehicle to ensure their safety and sought medical attention for his injuries.
The manager condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and criminal. He said the incident has been reported to the Okitipupa Police Division and called on authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible. He also urged fans, event organizers, and the public to respect the safety of performers and mourners at public events.
Althentic expressed gratitude to those who assisted at the scene and to local security and health personnel for their prompt response, adding that further updates would be shared as appropriate.
