Magnus Abe Urges Backing From United Ogoni For HYPREP To Achieves Aims With Deeyah As Chairman

Chairman of National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), Senator Magnus Ngei Abe has congratulated Honourable Emmanuel Nwika Deeyah as Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYREP), in Nigeria.

The statement also congratulated other members of the Governing Council as appointed by the President such as; Loanyie Barituka Victor, who represents the Non-governmental Organisations focused on the environment, Bright Onyebuchi Jacob and Henry Obiabure, who represent the Niger Delta communities.

Professor Barinedum Michael Nwibere and Barrister Baride Abdul Gwezia are the representatives of the Ogoni Community on the new Council.

The nine oil-producing states have two representatives on the Council in the persons of Gideon Onyebuwa Melfor and Dr Ibikunle Omotehinse.

Four other alternative members of the Council representing Ogoniland and the Niger Delta were also appointed. They are Dr Abraham Olungwe, who was reappointed and Engr. Maeba Power Ekpobari as the alternate members of the Council representing Ogoniland. Joseph Akedesuo and Beauty Warejuowei represent the Niger Delta on the board.

On the reconstituted HYREP Board of Trustees are Fred Mbombo Igwe and Dr Fred Barivule Kpakol who will represent Ogoni communities and stakeholders on the board, Mrs Dorcas Amos represents the other Niger Delta communities, while Chief Jide Damazio, who was reappointed, represents the NGOs dealing with environmental issues.

Abe described Emmanuel Deeyah and other members of the Governing Council as seasoned professionals whose dint of hard work and skill will enable HYPREP to achieve its goal and objectives.

He called on all stakeholders and Ogonis at large to unite and work together with one another in order to achieve the total remediation of Ogoniland, the purpose for which HYPREP was set up.
