Lagos Govt Insists, Jimi Agbaje Owes N1.6m Tax As PDP Guber Candidate Heads To Court To Seek Redress
Governor Fashola and his administration insist, gubernatorial candidate of the rival political party in the upcoming Lagos election, Jimi Agbaje owes N1.6m in tax.
This development comes on the heels of denial of initial charge by Agbaje and public parade of a letter of commendation for from the state government for paying his tax up today by the gubernatorial candidate to dispell the allegation.
Fresh information the Lagos state government however assert, the PDP flag bearer is a tax defaulter.
The letter of commendation being paraded is said to be for performing civic duties on his residence, 1, Bombay Crescent, Apapa GRA.
He is accused of failing to meet up with land use charge on his place of business,9, Randle Close, Apapa (Lagos).
According to official communication signed by government spokes person, Akeem Bello ‘ The Land Use Charge on the business premises of JK Pharmacy at 9, Randle Close, Apapa, was not paid for 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
As Governor Fashola acknowledged, payment was made for 2013 and 2014 on 9, Randle Close, Apapa, perhaps in preparation for the election.
The payments for 2009 to 2012 remain outstanding and unpaid and those monies go to the Local Governments to fund primary education and primary Healthcare.
The amount due and unpaid is N1,629,064.62.’
And to show seriousness in recouping the debt which has dented the image of the Gubernatorial candidate, the statement ended with a foreboding line ‘The only way this debt owed to the people of Lagos will go away is if it is paid.’
Information available to societynowng.com have it that Agbaje has initiated moves to seek legal redress against what he labelled ‘falsehood’.
According to a trending statement attributed to him, the gubernatorial candidate has equally challenged the Governor and government of Lagos state to ‘prosecute’ him if he is ‘a tax Evader’.
Sources close to him further asserted he is keen on exploring legal means at putting the matter to rest.
Jimi Agbaje is major contender to Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress candidate seeking to succeed fellow party man and outgoing governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola.
