Insiders Tell Why Lagos Speaker Obasa Is On List Of Ogun Guber Aspirants

Multiple sources have established why the name of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, is on the list of gubernatorial aspirants in Ogun State.

Those in the know attribute it to “kite flying” without any concrete basis.

“Kite flying” is a term for throwing up an idea, either as a false flag or to gauge a reaction.

Kite flying to assess public reaction towards a planned action is usually premised on an established ground.

“But in the case of Obasa, his name has been included as a red flag to colour the real motive,” sources close to the Speaker insist.

Although he has roots in Ogun State, insiders say the Speaker has no political ambition in the state.

He has publicly declared that although he has no gubernatorial ambition at present, if he desires to pursue any, he would contest from Agege, Lagos State.

Obasa is also linked to talks of interest in succeeding the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Checks revealed that the Speaker made the “contest from Agege” declaration during the 2025 budget presentation to the Lagos State House of Assembly in November 2024.

“So, there is nothing like a political ambition for the Speaker in Ogun State as far as things stand. People are mentioning his name because he is a prominent figure with roots in the state,” a top-level source stated.

Aside from Obasa, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, are also top-echelon Lagos politicians with ancestry traced to Ogun State.

Obasa is particularly attracting attention because of his inclusion in the agitation for the next Governor of Ogun State to come from the part of the state he is associated with.
