Insiders have disclosed the stand of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the unraveling face-off between anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former Governor of kogi state, Yahaya Bello.

“The President’s stance is simple and it is what he has adopted in similar cases, let the rule of law takes its course. He won’t provide any political shield” according to inside information.

Observers say Tinubu is particular about not just being seen in this case as not interfering, because of the attention bello as brought to it – home and abroad, but ensuring he isn’t.

“Two of the USPs (Unique Selling Points) this administration is using to attract foreign investments is that nigeria is not a Banana Republic (rule of law exists) and is systematically tackling corruption. The President will not risk the enormous gains recorded so far as well as the huge potentials at play through these positions – in concert with  others – by getting roped into the mess of a former governor who refuses to submit himself to investigation by a government agency to clear himself off allegations of corruption while in office. And has gone ahead to turn the situation into a public spectacle” according to those in the know.

Bello, the former governor of Kogi state has refused to honor invitation by the nation’s most prominent anti-corruption agency regarding an allegation of money laundering to the N80.2Billion while in office.

The 48years old was the Govenor of Kogi state from  January 27, 2016 to January 27, 2024

He escaped arrest by the whiskers on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 when EFCC operatives surrounded his Abuja residence to secure a forceful arrest on the premise a warrant issued by an Abuja High Court.

Bello, who escaped arrest through the antics of his successor as kogi governor usman ododo – alleged spirited him away in his convoy -, is insisting a High Court in Kogi state has restrained the EFCC from arresting, detaining or prosecuting him.

The EFCC took him to court in absentia on Thursday, April 18, 2024 in Abuja on the allegation of N80.2b money laundering and declared him wanted.

On monday, April 22, 2024 the anti -corruption agency approached the Court Of Appeal in Abuja to invalidate the ruling of the Kogi High Court that Bello is relying on to stay hidden – but the court did not sit to hear the apeal as the cat and mouse game between the accuser and accused continues.
