Insiders have revealed the closest companion of suspended Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele has battles to regain his freedom.

Emefiele was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in on June 10, 2023.

He was initially kept in custody as part of speculated reasons of investigation into the affairs of the Central Bank of Nigeria under his watch.

But based on a court order, he was charged to court July 2023 and granted bail on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 by a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos in the sum of N20m with a surety in like sum after pleading not guilty to the two count charge bordering on accusations of illegal possession of firearm.

He was, however, rearrested by the DSS after a brawl with the officials of the correctional services who wanted to take custody of the suspended Central Bank Governor after he failed to perfect the conditions attached to his bail.

SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed that his Bible has been his best companion since his arrest and detention.

“That is the Bible he was clutching in the pictures of his appearance in Court on Tuesday” according to information available.

Those who should known disclosed that the suspended Central Bank Governor “has become more spiritual in detention entrusting his hope in God, that the ordeal is proving very challenging to him.”

“That is one of the reasons he was clutching the Bible in his appearance in court as a sign of strong faith” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

First appointed as the Governor of Central Bank in June 4, 2014 by former President Goodluck Jonathan, 61 years old Emefiele was reappointed by Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on May 9, 2019.

The travails of the alumnus of Executive Education at Stanford University, Harvard University (2004) and Wharton School of Business as an unwilling guest of the DSS began with his suspension from office by President Bola Tinubu on June 9, 2023.

Before his suspension, Meffy as hail by friends and associates drew widespread anger across the nation with his Naira swap policy that brought unmentionable hardships on the nation and resulted in widespread protest and attacks on financial institutions over scarcity of funds.

It didn’t help Emefiele’s reputation that one of the touted chief reasons for the policy was to fight the scourge of Naira for votes in the last election – the same election campaigns were done on his behalf to contests as a possible Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) without resigning his position as the Central Bank Governor.
