Insider Tells Agboola Ajayi’s New Move To Cancel Aiyedatiwa’s Guber Win

Agboola Ajayi, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 16, 2024, Ondo State gubernatorial election, is determined to challenge Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s victory.
Aiyedatiwa was declared the winner with 266,781 votes, while Ajayi secured 117,845 votes, placing second.
The incumbent Governor contested the election under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Ajayi, who denounced the November 16 election as a “shameful exercise,” initially sought to invalidate Aiyedatiwa’s victory through a pre-election court case. The suit questioned the eligibility of the Governor and his deputy, Adeyemi Olajide, to contest the election.
However, on Monday, December 2, 2024, the court ruled against Ajayi, citing his lack of locus standi.

Sources close to Ajayi revealed that he now plans to approach the election tribunal.
“With the case out of the way, the next step is heading to the tribunal. There’s still enough time to file a petition since election guidelines allow 21 working days for this process,” an insider disclosed.
Agboola reportedly delayed filing at the election tribunal to await the verdict on the pre-election suit, which he hoped would disqualify Aiyedatiwa and Olajide outright. Now that the case has been resolved, Ajayi’s focus shifts entirely to challenging the election result at the tribunal.
