The family of the late Olusegun Awolowo Jr., respected lawyer and public figure – and grandson of timeless leader Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo – , has laid out a meticulously planned three-day burial program that reflects both reverence and rich symbolism.

Known for his contributions to humanity and public service, the 62-year-old will be honored not just for his legacy, but for the values his family seeks to celebrate through each event.

The Night of Tributes, scheduled for Monday, 1 December 2025 at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, invites guests to wear white or silver—colours chosen to signify honour and purity.

This opening ceremony promises an intimate gathering of family, friends, and admirers sharing stories of his life and achievements.

On Wednesday, 3 December, a Wake-Keeping Service will also hold at Harbour Point.

Guests are encouraged to appear in shades of green, representing renewal, peace, and hope for eternal rest—a thoughtful nod to the cycle of life and remembrance of the friend of many who carried a legendary name without arrogance.

The final farewell comes on Friday, 5 December, with a Funeral Service at Our Saviour’s Church, Ikoyi, Lagos. The designated shades of blue reflect calm, dignity, and the serenity of the final journey.

Each aspect of the program—from venue to colour code—has been carefully curated by the family, offering both a tribute to Awolowo Jr.’s life and a lesson in the power of symbolism in commemorating a public figure.

With prominent dignitaries, colleagues, and citizens expected to attend, Lagos is set to witness a funeral that blends tradition, elegance, and heartfelt remembrance.
