Oyinlade Olalekan’s first love was sociology but he has made insurance his claim to fame.
From a the status of graduate of sociology (B.sc) from the University of Lagos in 1995, Oyinlade has risen to become one of the most sought after insurance bosses as at today.
Why Oyinlade is one of those in high demand in his industry and how he achieved this is evident in his declaration that “I am a strategic business executive with risk management skills spanning all facets from Business Development, Strategy, Project Management, Product Development, Sales, Underwriting, Reinsurance to Claims Management.
“I am passionate about knowledge acquisition and sharing. A prolific risk management enthusiast with special bias for Reinsurance and Alternative Risk Transfer mechanisms.”
His journey into the insurance world to a large extent started at skill honing Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc in 1997 as Head of Insurance where he was Responsible for structuring an efficient and effective reinsurance solution for the company’s aggregate risk exposure till 2004 when he moved to Guaranty Trust Assurance Plc where he spent eight (8) years and became Head, General Business Operations.
Among other things the cool calm and collected insurance big gun Coordinated the underwriting activities of the Regional Offices, was responsible for developing and implementation of the 24 hour motor insurance claims payment process, Assess underwriting talent; determine skill gaps, assists in developing appropriate training programs, transfers knowledge, provides coaching, feedback, and mentoring and risk management advisory services and coordination of Pre Loss and Post Loss Risk Management activities.
Societynow.ng gathered that when Guaranty Trust Assurance transformed into AXA Mansard, Oyinlade spent another 5 years at the place further developing his skills.
He left AXA Mansard in 2017 after rising to the position of Group Head (Life, Public Sector & Infrastructure) and certification and skills that outweigh his position.

Information available revealed that Oyinlade, the father of four from Osun state left Axa Mansard boasting of specialties that include Direct & Treaty Reinsurance Underwriting, Commercial Claims Handling, Extensive client & broker relations and Solving complex situations or problems.

As at the time he left AXA Mansard in December 2017, Oyinade was the toast of many insurance companies. His next port of call was Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc where he resumed as Executive Director (Operations) in January 2018.
He spent a year and 8months at the place where he in charge of the running of company with job functions that include Lead, and monitor implementation of, Company’s strategic, financial and annual business planning activities, ensuring that plans support strategic and operational priorities making the best use of appropriate resources and personnel of the Company , was Responsible for appropriate approach to effective project management across the company resulting from the challenges of growth in scale, scope and complexity of operations and was a Member of Board of Directors responsible for overall strategic and business planning.
The kind heart – according to those who have interacted with him – left Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc n August 2019 to take up appointment as the MD/CEO at Old Mutual General Insurance Company Nigeria Limited where he holds sway.
