“Ingenuity Of The Governor” – Dep Gov Tells Why PDP Primaries Were Peaceful In Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi has praised the just concluded peaceful conduct of the primary elections for councilorship and local government chairmanship candidates in Oron Local Government, and in the entire State, attributing the success of the exercise to Governor Umo Eno’s encouragement for peace and his inclusive leadership policy.

The primary elections, held last Saturday, saw the emergence of Okon Asuquo Enweme as the winner for the chairmanship position, alongside 11 candidates for the councilorship positions. 

The Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi who interacted with Governor Eno’s Senior Special Assistant on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso on the exercise in Oron, commended the zoning formula adopted by the local government, which allowed Zone A to produce the chairmanship candidate, in line with the established rotation pattern.

“The peaceful conduct of the primaries is a testament to the leadership ingenuity of the Governor,  and the effective coordination of the process by the stakeholders in Oron,” Senator Eyakenyi said. 

“We allowed each ward to select their candidate, and at the local government level, all stakeholders were involved in selecting the chairmanship candidate.”

She also appreciated Governor Eno’s guidance and call for peace, which ensured that power was returned to the people at the ward level. 

“The Governor’s leadership has been instrumental in ensuring a peaceful and inclusive process,” she added.

The primary elections were monitored by the returning officers and coalition officers, who ensured that the process was free and fair. The use of the open balloting voting pattern, where candidates queued up behind their preferred candidates, added to the transparency of the process.

“It was a very celebrated moment in Oron,” she said. 

Describing festivity after the elections, she said, “the people of Oron Local Government are jubilating and celebrating the peaceful conduct of the primaries and the emergence of their preferred candidates. Okon Asuquo Enweme, the chairmanship candidate, as the people expressed their gratitude to Governor Eno’s leadership and the zoning formula that ensured a fair outcome.”

The chairmanship candidate, Ulap Okon Asuquo Enweme, expressed appreciation to his party for nominating him as the candidate and promised to be people centric in his leadership style. 

The Commissioner for Transport, Orman Esin and the House of Representatives member for Oron federal Constituency, Hon. Martin Esin, lauded Governor Eno for championing a peaceful democratic process in the entire State, and commended the Oron people for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
