saying the state has witnessed decline

Wole Oke, a fifth-term member of the House of Representatives from Osun State who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, saying the state has witnessed decline despite the surge in resources available to it.

In a lengthy social media post, Oke said he was never a member of the defunct Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), or the All Progressives Congress (APC) that produced former governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola.

He noted that although he did not work for those administrations, both leaders demonstrated fairness and rationality in distributing projects and appointments despite scarce resources.

The lawmaker explained that, as a member of the opposition at the time, he “worked tirelessly to get the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into government” and therefore found it reasonable to demand that the Adeleke-led administration deliver on its promises to the people, given that state revenues had tripled under the current government.

He lamented the condition of key sectors in Osun, accusing the state government of neglecting education, healthcare, and water supply. “We have no teachers in our schools, no health workers in our hospitals, no portable drinking water. Rural electrification is gone. Individuals are left to dig boreholes everywhere. God forbids earthquakes,” he said.

Oke also questioned the source of funding for roads rehabilitated in Ede North and South, suggesting that such projects were unlikely to have been financed through private means. He reminded that neither Aregbesola nor Oyetola served as Commissioners for Works, whereas Governor Adeleke currently holds that portfolio.

The lawmaker commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening fiscal federalism and ensuring every state received its fair share of national revenue.

His remarks, however, sparked backlash from loyalists of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In one of the sharp responses, Ogidiolu Adedeji, a party supporter, wrote: “MP (Member of Parliament) Oluwole Oke-BOO should be ashamed of himself and stop disgracing himself further on this Blue App. Bamidele Salam has rehabilitated nothing less than 10 kilometres of roads in the two local governments in Ede and about 25 kilometres across Ede Federal Constituency within eight years. How many road rehabilitations has the Methuselah of Ijesha North facilitated during his 20 years of misrepresentation in the National Assembly (NASS)?”

The exchange marks the latest twist in the ongoing war of words between Oke and members of his former party since his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this year.
