Cross River State governor, Bassey Otu, has declared December open with an invitation to Nigerians and the international community to experience what he described as the “Season of Sweetness” in Calabar.

In a goodwill message to mark the beginning of the state’s 32 days of celebrations, Otu said the famed Calabar festivities remain a symbol of culture, colour, and unity, adding that the state is fully prepared to welcome guests from across the world.

“Happy New Month, my good people of Cross River State,” he began, noting that the annual December experience has once again transformed the capital city into a vibrant hub of hospitality and excitement. According to him, this is the period when “our streets come alive, our culture stands proud, and our people show the world what true hospitality feels like.”

The governor said Calabar’s long-standing reputation as the home of Africa’s biggest street party is not just about entertainment but also a statement of peace, beauty, and community spirit. He urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, as well as tourists from all parts of the world, to make Cross River their destination this festive period.

“I invite everyone within Nigeria and beyond to come to Cross River State and enjoy the fun, the peace, the beauty, and the warm welcome we are known for,” Otu declared.

He prayed for joy and blessings for every home as the month begins, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to keeping Calabar safe, clean, and ready for the influx of visitors expected throughout December.

“Welcome to December. Welcome to Calabar. Welcome to the Season of Sweetness,” he added, signalling the official start of the festivities that will once again place the state in the global spotlight.
