“I Have Lost A Trusted Ally,” -Ajibola Basiru Mourns
“I have lost an advisor, a reliable companion”
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has described the death of Bisi Odewumi as a devastating personal loss, paying tribute to the late politician’s loyalty, wisdom, and impact on progressive politics.
Odewumi, who once served as the Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, passed away on Thursday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, after a brief illness.
In an emotional statement, Basiru, who had shared a long-standing political and personal bond with the late Odewumi, said the news of his passing left him deeply shaken.
“He was a big brother who would relate with me very well, the age gap notwithstanding. Honourable was a man of few words, but full of wisdom and native intelligence. His politics were centrifugal and altruistic,” the APC scribe said.
Recalling their shared political journey, Basiru noted that Odewumi was not just an ally but an integral part of the Alubarika Movement, where his loyalty and commitment stood out.
“I have lost an advisor, a reliable companion, a core Progressive. I’m dejected, but at the same time, I glory in the fact that he led a meaningful, impactful life,” he added.
Praying for the repose of his soul, Basiru urged God to grant the bereaved family strength to bear the painful loss, stressing that Odewumi’s memory would remain indelible in the annals of progressive politics.
Basiru is the leading gubernatorial aspirant of the APC for 2026 Osun state governorship election.
