How Osinbajo’s Declaration Has Thrown More Mystery On His Presidential Ambition

In a pre-recorded tape, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo today, Monday, April 11, 2022, declared his ambition to become the next President of Nigeria on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osinbajo’s solemn declaration comes three months after his political leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu publicly made his intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari known.

Tinubu, a major influence in the formation of the APC declared his presidential ambition on January 10, 2022 – after a meeting with President Buhari.

In between Osinbajo and Tinubu’s declarations, chieftains of the ruling Party such as Dave Umahi. Yahaya Bello and recently, Rotimi Amaechi have declared presidential aspirations.

Tinubu and Osinbajo have remained the most talked about aspirants in the country.

Tinubu retains the position of the contender to beat with ongoing countrywide consultations rallying different political figures to his side while Osinbajo just heaped more mystery on his ambition.

Unlike the other aspirants, Osinbajo opted for a solemn presidential ambition declaration that gives no clue of those backing the move.

Talks of Amaechi and Osinbajo’s presidential ambition have been fueled with claims of strong backing from President Buhari by “campaigners” on both sides.

Amaechi – like others – in declaring his ambition tried to make known political figures at the state and federal levels identify with his aspiration, but Osinbajo outrightly shunned the move.

The most formidable opponent between Osinbajo and securing the ticket of the APC to contest the 2023 presidential election is seen as his political mentor Asiwaju Tinubu who has cultivated lifelong contacts and support structures all over the country and enjoys strong backings from far and near in the bid to achieve what he described as a “lifelong ambition” to become President of Nigeria.

And Osinbajo in declaring to take on such a formidable opponent just released “a prerecorded speech”.

“It remains a mystery, what he is banking on to win. It is either he is playing a game of psychology or he is dead certain of getting the beating Asiwaju Tinubu to the APC presidential ticket based on the clout f the power behind him and is just going throw a motion to fulfill the requirement.
