One of his loyal aides has refused to let former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu be forgotten.

Akeredolu died on December 27, 2023, in Germany while undergoing treatment for prolonged ailment that forced him to hand over to Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the acting Governor of Ondo state.

Aiyedatiwa who was engulfed in multiple campaigns to unseat him was sworn-in as Governor later the same day. He has emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2024 Ondo state gubernatorial election after a fierce contest that had the bulk of the Akeredolu political family backin another aspirant –

However, since the death of Akeredolu at the age of 67 in December 2023 and burial on February 23, 2024. his former Chief Press Secretary, Olabode Richard Olatunde has unrelentingly kept his memory alive.

The former Chief Press Secretary has taken it upon himself to unceasingly remind the public of the past – and good – deeds of the late governor.

Olabode Akintunde is hugely making use of social media – particularly Facebook – to do this.

He is resharing materials on cornerstone moments in the life of the deceased as well as far reaching decisions he took as the Governor of Ondo state.

Some of the sharings done by the former spokesperson as a form of throwback reliving the time of Akeredolu as Governor include Akeredolu’s reaction June 5, 2022 terror attack on the St. Francis Catholic Church Owo and his bold stance on the need for the Southern Presidency in the race ahead of the emergence of Bola Tinubu as President of NIgeria.

A former President of the nation’s body of lawyers, the Nigerian Bar Association , Akeredolu was on the last leg of his second term as the Governor of Ondo state when he died.

Described as forthrightly blunt, many acknowledged the late Governor as “a bridge builder”.
